CAN’T MAKE IT TO MUNICH? FIND AN OKTOBERFEST NEAR YOU

Oktoberfest is almost here. And if a trip to Munich isn’t on the cards this year, there are plenty of places to get a proper taste of the world’s most famous beer festival a little closer to home.

This year, pubs and bars across the UK will be getting into the Oktoberfest spirit with Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier, steins, Bavarian food, live music, keg tapping and plenty more.

And we’ve made it easy to find the celebrations happening near you.

OVER 200 YEARS OF OKTOBERFEST

Oktoberfest has come a long way since its beginnings in Munich in 1810.

The very first festival was held to celebrate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. The celebrations culminated in a horse race on 17 October on a meadow outside the city gates. That meadow was named Theresienwiese in honour of the bride and remains the home of Oktoberfest today, better known locally simply as the Wiesn.

The celebration proved so popular that it returned the following year and eventually became an annual Munich tradition. Over time, the horse racing gave way to the beer halls, food, music and fairground attractions that have made Oktoberfest famous around the world. The first large beer tents began appearing towards the end of the 19th century, helping shape the festival we recognise today.

And despite the name, Oktoberfest now begins in September. The festival was moved forward to take advantage of the longer days and warmer weather, with Oktoberfest 2026 running from 19 September to 4 October.

A TASTE OF THE REAL THING

Beer is, of course, at the heart of the modern Oktoberfest experience, and few beers are more closely associated with the festival than Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier.

Paulaner has been brewing its bottom-fermented Oktoberfest Bier since 1818, and today describes it as Germany’s favourite Oktoberfest beer. Brewed especially for the festival, it’s a strong, golden lager balancing light hop character with rich malt.

So, if you can’t make it to Munich this year, why not find the next best thing?

Across the country, venues will be pouring Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier and bringing their own taste of the Wiesn to the UK. From full Oktoberfest takeovers to pubs simply pouring a few steins of the good stuff, there are plenty of ways to join the celebrations.
